This is a real case presented at Key Health CBD South in 2022

Patient: 67 years old, male

Symptoms: Presents with a scaly rash on the left cheek

Investigation: Biopsy with a 2mm punch under local anaesthetic

Diagnosis: Bowen's disease (also known as squamous cell carcinoma in situ)

What is it? Bowen’s disease is a very early form of skin cancer arising from the top or squamous layer of the skin. If left untreated, a significant minority may develop into invasive cancer which requires surgery.

Management: Options include cryotherapy, medical cream therapy, curettage/cautery or even possibly observation in the elderly.

Skin checks, biopsies, and skin cancer treatments are done routinely in Key Health by highly trained doctors. If you have any concerns relating to your skin, please consult with your GP or book a skin check with us.
